About Tangenu

Who we are and why we exist

Our Mission

Tangenu exists to remove practical barriers that keep children in Zambezi from school. We work with trusted local partners and schools to identify needs and respond quickly.

We began with a simple conviction: every child deserves a fair start. As we listened in Zambezi, patterns emerged — school fees, uniforms, and transport costs regularly blocked attendance.

Our Approach

Founders: The Vreman family. We're committed to safeguarding and dignity. We never publish identifiable photos of children without informed consent.

We believe in working with communities, not for them. Every decision is made in partnership with local leaders, schools, and families.

How We Work

Our transparent, community-focused process

Identification Safeguarding Disbursement Accountability Termly check-ins

Our Process

  • We identify children with local leaders, schools, and community recommendations.
  • Safeguarding first: dignity, consent, and do-no-harm practices.
  • Disbursements go to schools or verified caregivers with clear documentation.
  • Accountability: receipts, confirmations, and simple impact tracking.
  • Termly check-ins: attendance, progress, and any new barriers.

Why Education

The power of education to transform lives

Breaking the Cycle

Education interrupts the cycle of poverty. When children access school consistently, their life chances rise — from literacy and numeracy to health, incomes, and participation in community life.

In Zambezi, even small costs can shut the door. Tangenu removes these barriers so learners can walk through and keep going.

Our Focus Areas

  • Access: getting in the classroom and staying there.
  • Outcomes: basic skills, confidence, and future opportunity.
  • Equity: targeted support where barriers are highest.
